Some Handy Basic references to assist in valve selection

Whether its a new installation or simply replacing old or failed valves always consider what is being installed. Never assume what is given to you is correct to install always check the ID tags of the valves and make sure they are compliant. Also if replacing a valve ask why did the old one fail? Age can be a factor however it can also be that you have the wrong valve for the application. It can also be a quality issue as sometimes buying a cheap product can mean you are not going to get the life expectancy as required. Down time and inconvenience or operational factors can cost incredibly more than a few dollars on the initial cost differences. Below are a few documents that may assist in cross referencing compatibilities to ensure at least basic selection is addressed.

The Associated Engineering tables covers periodic table, pressure conversions, temperature conversions and torque charts handy in validating valve suitability.

API standards designate trim code combinations to simplify valve selection below is the API600 chart for reference.

For referencing temperature and pressures of saturated steam to ensure correct equipment is suitable use this steam table.
