Filters and strainers, stainless, cast steel and lined in both threaded and flanged connections.
What do strainers do and why do we use them?
Strainers and Filters remove foreign matter and impurities from the pipeline process. They are relatively new compared to the age of general valving. Advances in industrial processes are forever developing putting increased demands on product quality and cost of ownership of those processes. In high velocity applications like steam or gas it is important to remove pipeline scale quickly before it damages the internals of expensive control valves etc. The same can be said even for water pipelines as the sediment can damage soft seated gate or butterfly valves. In essence strainers are an inexpensive item protecting expensive pipeline equipment and ensuring any product reaches its process without contaminants.
What types of strainers are there?
Strainers can be temporary such as cone strainers or part of the process. Process strainers can be Y strainers, T strainers, Simplex strainers and Duplex strainers. They can range from instrumentation size units to pipeline sizes 15nb to 900nb (although from stock only up to 600nb). Materials of construction can be plastic, brass, steel, stainless and also from exotic alloys. For Chemical applications consider lined strainers to protect the process and pipeline integrity. This then matches the other lined valving we distribute such as checks, controls and sampling valves. Pressure ranges are from 150psi though to 3600psi.
We support the ability to supply Australian made product wherever we can. Part of our Strainer range is just that along with all the replacement elements and baskets. These elements are available in various meshes or micron sizes.
Single basket or Simplex strainers offer a large surface area of filtration. They can be bolted cap or clamp capped, the latter making for easy maintenance if the service requires frequent cleaning. They are available in Steel and Stainless Steel bodies. Duel Twin basket clamp (Duplex style) strainers offer instant switching and change out without production losses.
Chemical service lined Strainer
PFA lined strainers are part of the AZ Armaturen valves lined products range. These are used not only for chemical resistance but also to maintain the process purity.
Other Strainer Data
DIN16 PN10 / PN16 Flanged and Drilled valves can be found on many imported types of equipment and on vessels in the marine sector. VCS cater for both valving and strainers for this application. VYS-CDIN16 Y DIN 16 strainer data is below and they are stocked in Australia for distribution.
The VYS-S804 is a general purpose stainless steel Y strainer with a 1mm hole perf with an option of 60 mesh overlay and capped end. The 1mm hole perf is a standard water / liquid filter size whilst the 60 mesh overlay is for gas / steam applications.
The VYS-S804-SG is a Y strainer for steam gas or liquid use with a standard 60 mesh element but it has a blowdown plug which allows for fitting of a ball valve to flush the element without having to isolate the system. This is a far more effective method to keep the system operating with minimal maintenance or downtime. Failing to keep a strainer element clean reduces flows, effects production and can collapse the element itself allowing damage to expensive downstream equipment. We highly recommend strainers with blowdown valves and can supply as a kit if required.
